In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler is thrust into an ill-advised job with geographical consequences for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced the American and British governments to allow the series to use real-life locations as filming locations, including the still-new American Embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

The only remaining location is Winfield House, the real-life home of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential area in London outside of Buckingham Palace (11 hectares), the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.

Kate Wyler’s character, written about a career American diplomat, is a captivating mix of strength, humor, intelligence, vulnerability and, oh, sex. "The Diplomat" skillfully caricatures the realm of international diplomacy and its inhabitants.
Now Netflix just needs to announce Season 2 and let Miss
The world is not yet bent on conspiracy, and the wonderfully talented, diverse cast makes it easy to believe that many governments are filled with people who never made it past high school. The series looks good, sounds good, feels good — supremely entertaining and intelligent adult entertainment.
